Reclaiming Her Smile

Sharon Pridgen, a hard-working Special Education teacher and single mother of six, navigates a constant balancing act between her career and her children’s needs. Her children are deeply involved in various extracurricular activities (music, dance and educational programs) requiring her constant attention and transportation. Sharon has stress from financial strain, the logistical challenges of taking time off work for appointments and dealing with car troubles.

“Our family life has been anything but ordinary.” – Sharon Pridgen

Sharon’s daughter, Roshonna Boddie, a high school senior, has faced her own health challenges. Initially interested in a career in forensic science, Roshonna shifted her focus to early childhood education, inspired by her mother’s resilience and commitment. Roshonna struggled with calcification of her teeth, causing her intense pain and discomfort. For years, she couldn’t enjoy her favorite foods or sing without suffering. She resorted to lukewarm water and soft foods to manage the pain.

The turning point came with the help of Jaylen, a Healthy Learners Student Service Coordinator, who was able to facilitate and provide transportation for medical appointments for Roshonna. Jaylen’s support was instrumental; she made a comfortable environment for Roshonna on her dentist visits. Roshonna is thriving thanks in part to Healthy Learners coming alongside her family and lifting a significant burden off her mother’s shoulders.

“I urge everyone to consider the impact of Healthy Learners in our community. Contributions to organizations like Healthy Learners can change lives, providing essential services and hope to families in need.” – Sharon Pridgen
