Healthy Learners began serving the students of Allendale County in the fall of 2005. The program serves elementary, middle and high school students in Allendale County School District who lack adequate access to health care. In 2019, Healthy Learners screened 90% of the students in the county for vision, hearing, and asthma. These screenings allow us to identify children with health barriers to learning, then provide access to the health care that they need to thrive in school. Based on this pilot, Healthy Learners is moving towards a screen, refer, serve strategy to expand our reach and impact into other rural counties.
