Response to COVID-19

A message from our heart.

In the spirit of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Healthy Learners has been devoted to removing children’s health barriers to learning with LOVE and compassion for the past 27 years. We are committed to a spirit of compassionate care, to an attitude of respect for each individual with whom we collaborate, and to showing genuine concern for each other.  Now, more than ever we must fulfill our mission of extending the healing ministry of the Sisters to all people as we are faced with the reality of COVID-19 and the drastic impacts in our communities.

Our belief to share love and compassion with those around us will continue to lead us during and after the pandemic. With the closure of schools and many of our health care providers, Healthy Learners has the challenge and opportunity to serve with love and compassion to all people in need during this uncertain time. Making a slight shift in our mission to serve not only children, but families and seniors will allow us to support other community initiatives and work collaboratively alongside South Carolina organizations providing COVID-19 relief assistance. We will expand our services to meet basic health needs like food, medicine and other essentials or urgent medical needs. We know that many citizens in our state are in great need, and together we are a stronger force to help them.

Healthy Learners staff will remain employed, but how we work each day will look a bit different depending on the needs of our community. Staff will help school districts deliver meals, offer meal delivery for home bound seniors, assist with medical supplies and medications, and provide essential items like diapers, wipes and formula.  The Healthy Learners Offices will be closed to the public at the current time.

LOVE, a guiding force in our mission, is needed now more than ever. This global pandemic has made it clear; we are all connected to each other and will get through this together – with LOVE.

Many blessings,

Amy Splittgerber, Executive Director
