A Little Skin Cream Goes a Long Way
A school nurse noticed a rash on fifth-grader Alena’s* arm. The nurse contacted Alena’s mom about receiving medical treatment for the rash. Unfortunately, her mom did not have a car or other means to get Alena to the doctor, so the school nurse discussed Healthy Learners with her. The nurse sent home a Healthy Learner consent form to the mom and the next day Healthy Learners scheduled an appointment with a local pediatrician and transported Alena to her appointment. The doctor wrote a prescription for skin cream. Healthy Learners picked up the medication and delivered it to the school nurse. Alena’s rash quickly cleared up and she no longer had to miss out on instructional time in the classroom.
